£500 Emergency Angel Grant sent to Shelter Ugolyok, Ukraine, to save animals from slaughter
On the day before Christmas Eve, The Sanctuary Angels were contacted by supporters of Shelter Ugolyok in Ukraine, who had the opportunity to save a few animals from slaughter, by buying them directly from the local butcher. Time was of the essence, and it felt impossible to ignore this rare chance to be part of a rescue that would give a few very frightened animals a new chance at a happy life.
SHELTER UGOLYOK – ORIGINAL MESSAGE:
The butcher contacted us himself because he felt sorry for the animals. He agreed to give us a DAY to save as many animals as possible. When the butchers arrived, they took everyone they could. Our volunteers wanted to come directly to the slaughterhouse themselves, but the slaughterhouse director did not give permission. Instead, they showed us on the vehicle all the animals they were able to release for rescue. That is three donkeys, one elderly cow, and a bull with a young cow.
Thanks to our supporters, later that day we were able to send a £500 Angel Grant to Shelter Ugolyok – and then there was nothing we could do but nervously wait for updates. And on Christmas Day, those updates arrived!
SHELTER UGOLYOK – UPDATE:
Yesterday, we rescued the animals from slaughter. They all arrived very hungry, very thirsty, and a little frightened. Among the donkeys, there is one – the oldest. She is truly very old. Even the back of her neck has changed with age. And yet…she walked in on her own, calmly, as if she already knew where she was going. She only sniffed here and there, just to make sure – yes, this is the right place. The whole team is exhausted, but our hearts are completely full. And that joy is what keeps our bodies going. My most heartfelt thanks for this incredible miracle.
