£500 October Angel Grant to Help Chickens in Canada

Liz Wheeler of Secondhand Stories, Canada

"I want to express my sincerest and deepest gratitude for this support. This truly couldn't have come at a better time, as the medical bills have been piling up. I wanted to share just a few of the chickens this will help:
1) Gunta is a sweet 6-year-old hen who recently developed swelling above her right eye. She needs a culture test to figure out which type of antibiotics might work better than her current option.
2) Hershey is a 3-year-old rooster. We are treating Hershey for bumblefoot, which requires bandage changes every 3 days and antibiotic and pain medication twice daily. We also need to purchase non-stick gauze, vet wrap, dermagel and epsom salts for his treatments.
3) At only 2 years old, Olive has entered palliative care for a reproductive tumour. Her quality of life is still wonderful, so we’re giving her the best life we can while she still enjoys eating and running around. This means pain medication and also having the funds squirrelled away so if and when we need to make the heartbreaking decision to help her pass peacefully, we can do so, ensuring her comfort and dignity until the very end.
Support from The Sanctuary Angels will help cover these costs, and more, allowing us to be prepared for the next medical case that arises without fear that the vet will turn us away. It's truly a double impact by helping us into the future without debt from these treatments."
