What is The Animal Academy?

The Animal Academy is a sanctuary for abused and abandoned farm animals on the island of Fuerteventura. "We give them a second chance: here they become superheroes and give a voice to all those who, like them, have suffered at the hands of humans! These rescued animals have developmental diseases, psychological problems and all kinds of ailments, but in the shelter they find a place to live without fear the life they deserve."

How will a £500 Angel Grant help The Animal Academy?

Dear Amanda and the Sanctuary Angels Team, We want to extend a huge and heartfelt thank you for your wonderful message and for your incredible generosity. The £500 donation will help us enormously – especially with our largest ongoing cost: food. 

As you may know, Fuerteventura is a very dry and arid island, with little vegetation. We don’t have the lush green fields where animals can graze freely, which means everything they eat must be purchased. With 9 horses, 24 donkeys, 30 goats, a cow, and even a camel to care for, you can imagine the sheer amount of hay and feed we go through every single week. 

Your support goes directly toward keeping them healthy and well fed – it truly makes a difference to every animal here and to all of us who look after them.

With everything that is going on in the world, this donation is going to help us a lot more now as the cost of everything (fuel/transport), is making everything more expensive here as everything is brought in from mainland Spain/Europe. (Francisco Perez, The Animal Academy)
