What is Heartstone Veganic Sanctuary?

Heartstone is a vegan organic animal sanctuary in Ireland. Heartstone's mission is to give rescued animals a safe haven and a second chance at life. A peaceful refuge where they can live out their lives feeling loved and cherished. A place where they can roam the fields and feel the sun on their faces. A place where they are free.

Heartstone provides a safe and loving home for rescued animals, while working towards a sustainable, ethical, and vegan future. They go beyond basic care to create an environment where animals can thrive and live in a way that feels natural and fulfilling to them. Heartstone also supports rewilding, one of the most powerful ways to address the climate crisis. They promote sustainability and a holistic, non-violent way of living that respects all life. These values are at the heart of everything they do.

Why does Heartstone need help?

After months of uncertainty, panic, and an eviction deadline, Nía, who runs Heartstone, secured a new home for her residents, relocating at the end of November 2025. The sanctuary is currently home to 23 cows, 4 horses and ponies, 2 dogs and a cat, with the goal of becoming a permanent haven built on compassion, vegan, and ecological values.

The move followed a prolonged and ongoing period of financial strain, legal pressure, and extreme weather challenges. After relocation, the sanctuary faced winter conditions with limited infrastructure, no electricity, hot water, or heating all through winter; and, until recently, an emergency shelter had to be installed. All progress has depended on fundraising support – and significant improvements have been made.

The current €35,000 emergency fundraiser is funding the most urgent expenses required to ensure Heartstone Sanctuary can be made compliant with government regulations to save the cows from being seized and killed by the authorities. Raising these funds is a matter of life or death, with no other options to save the cows' lives. The fundraiser is sitting at around €25,000, with an essential €10,000 left to raise to secure the cows' futures.

How will the £1,000 Angel Grant from The Sanctuary Angels help?

£1,000 covers the concrete needed, which came in at €1,001.07. The concrete is a major expense ... so it is a huge relief to have it covered. Please give a huge thanks to your supporters also – not only for the sake of Heartstone but all sanctuaries in need. Thank you so much again for caring and wanting to help, and for your wonderful work in general, Nía ♥️♥️♥️♥️
